There are still places available for local willow weaving courses this winter 2009/2010. These courses are suitable for beginners and interesting for weavers with more experience.

The basketmaking courses I will offer are:

  • Hanging Basket or Christmas Tree. Saturday 28th of Nov, 10am to 2pm, Sleat Primary School

  • Hanging Basket or Christmas tree / Decorations or a Christmas basket. 3 Monday evenings, 7pm to 10pm at Auchtertyre Learning Centre: 7th, 14thDec, next date to be confirmed

  • Birdfeeder and a basket with different coloured willow from Sallachy. 3 Monday evenings, 7pm to 10 pm at Auchtertyre Learning Centre: 8th, 15th and 22nd Febr 2010

The basketmaking course by Jane Wilkinson was very inspiring, packed with practical tips and a great pleasure! We made round baskets with Buff and Black Maul using plaited reeds and heather as well.

I have visited a Primary School to help the pupils make a willow hut structure and willow fishes for the school garden as part of their Eco-Schools project.

On Friday 31st of July I will be at The Country Day @ Kelso Farm in Strathcarron from 11 am - 3pm. Look for the stall with the creels and baskets. You can make a butterfly with willow to take home!
Other events include Spinning and Wool dying, Sheepdog trials, Local Food, Games for the whole family and lots more!


On Balmacara Day visitors made fishes with willow, see this picture which was in The West Highland Free Press, June 2009.
